12/4/21: Musician Animations

Here are a few more 3D animations made with AI, which I used to promote a holiday concert of The Grand St. Stompers. I made this first one by mixing elements of depth maps produced by two different AIs: MiDaS v.3 for the general scene, and Boosting Monocular Depth + LeReS for the trumpet details, plus manual edits. (See my workshop on AI for 3D for details.) The hybrid depth map still has imperfections, as do the derived stereos, but I think these are slight in 3D, and entirely passable in the 2D version.

In the original photo, by Jessica Keener Photography, I was wearing a blue linen suit!

This shot originally by Lynn Redmile I converted using the MiDaS v.3 AI, plus substantial editing. I quite like the pop-out platform framing I was able to create with the still stereopair.

This final shot was converted using the MiDaS v.3 AI plus manual edits on the trumpet bell and elsewhere. It’s still not perfect in 3Dβ€”the reflections are especially trickyβ€”but again it suffices well enough especially for the 2D animation, I think. This depth map is rendered in the Inferno colormap palette, while those above use Turbo.
