Betsy the Cicada! Her official time of rebirth as an adult was (let’s say) August 24, 2020, at 8:55PM EDT. Now you can look her in the eyes—all three of them visible here, including one of the tiny ocelli between her compound eyes. She can see right through you with her third eye!
You can also see here just how much wider her adult head is than her nymph head—a good 50% wider. She sure was squished inside that shell! And it’s amazing this imago (adult) form was inside the nymph shell, piloting it like a puppeteer to climb the ‘tree.’
